AARP Discovers What Advocacy Means!

On April 4th, 2007, Sarah and Jenny attended the AARP meeting at the senior center in West Bend. AARP members had a better understanding of advocacy and different ways of becoming involved in Citizen Advocacy’s mission. All attendees were invited to the Citizen’s Ball.

West Bend Noon Rotary Welcomes CA!

On April 16th Mark spoke to the Noon Rotary in West Bend and shared a number of advocacy stories with the Rotarians.

Volunteer Week Provides CA Opportunity at West Bend Mutual!

On April 17th Mark spoke at the West Bend Mutual Insurance Lunch and Learn during their volunteer week expo.

CA At Hartford Job Fair!

On April 17th Jenny Spieth and Ken Weitz attended the Hartford Job Fair and educated participants about the Mission of Citizen Advocacy and directed people in ways they could become more involved in our organization including CA400.

Networking Group Discovers Citizen Advocacy!

On April 18th Sarah and Jenny spoke to the West Bend Business Networking group about Citizen Advocacy. They answered a lot of questions about advocacy and even had someone come forward who was interested in sitting on the board of directors.

Sarah and Jenny Speak to Peers Club

On May 22nd Sarah and Jenny spoke to sophomores, juniors and seniors in the peers club as well as special education faculty at Slinger High School regarding Citizen Advocacy. The presentation was geared at encouraging the students to take on an advocacy role with someone who has a developmental disability. One student stepped forward and is interested in becoming an advocate.


UW-Washington County Non-Traditional Student Group Meeting!

On Wednesday, Match 14th, Sarah Johnson, Citizen Advocacy Program Coordinator, and Jenny Spieth, Community Activist gave a presentation to the UW-Washington County’s nontraditional student group. One student expressed interest in learning more information about Citizen Advocacy. The participants were enthusiastic about finding creative ways for Citizen Advocacy and it’s members to participate in the life of the University in a variety of settings.


Non-Profit Panel Meeting!

On Friday, March 8th, Sarah Johnson, CA Program Coordinator participated in a panel of nonprofit organizations for the Hartford Chamber leadership class. Fifteen people attended. She presented information on a brief summary of advocacy and principles and how these relate to our funding sources. She also presented the various avenues of becoming involved in the CA mission as well as invited all attendees to the Citizen’s Ball.


Satellite Support Team Presentation at West Bend East High School!

Sarah Johnson, CA Program Coordinator, and Jenny Spieth, Community Activist, made a presentation to a group of interested students at West Bend East High School on February 15th. The meeting was attended by 23 students and teachers and the message was: You can be the eyes and ears of Citizen Advocacy at West Bend East High School and/or become an advocate.

Mark Brunner is the Executive Director of Citizen Advocacy of Washington County. He is a graduate of Marquette University, Milwaukee, WI, and Martin Luther College in New Ulm, Minnesota. He holds a BA degree in Political Science and a certificate in Staff Ministry. Mark has most recently worked with Christian Life Resources in Milwaukee as their Advancement Director after spending years in the publishing business with Northwestern Publishing House and Ideals Publishing. He's the author of several inspirational books and currently airs a radio program, This Passing Day, on WTKM radio in Hartford, WI.

Jessica joined our staff as the Community Activist just this past November. She is a West Bend native and is deeply rooted in the community. She is involved in the Business Network of Washington County and also serves as a the Assistant Program Director for Boys & Girls Clubs, Jackson. Jessica graduated from UW Whitewater with a BA in Social Work. Jessica has worked extensively with youth and youth programs and is a member of the Wisconsin Park and Recreation Association.

Joy is a member of the Citizen Advocacy Board of Directors since 2006. She has a B. A. degree in Professional Communication and Business Management from Alverno College. You can see her in the community as a Business Network International (BNI) member, Cantare Chorale member, and the board/leadership team at Women's Exchange of Milwaukee. She is a New Student Assessor and Assessor/Trainer at Alverno College, she lectures in the community on environmental issues, and is a college Economics instructor. Also, she is currently a Marketing Executive with Melaleuca, The Wellness Company, and president of JMZ Management.
